Troubleshooting Error Codes E1, E2, E3, E5, and E6

Sometimes, Kimono will encounter websites that it cannot scrape data from. This will generally happen when you attempt to save an API. Instead of creating the API, a failure screen will pop up like this:

This failure screen will vary depending on the type of error you've encountered. All of the error pages include an error code, which will provide helpful context on what the problem is and how to troubleshoot it.

What the Error Codes Mean

Error codes E1, E2, E3, E5, and E6 refer to errors with Kimono opening the target site. This can be for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, a target site will experience an outage that prevents Kimono from opening it. In other cases, something about the site prevents Kimono from opening it.

Troubleshooting the Error Codes

For errors E1, E2, and E3, you may be able to successfully create an API if you retry creating again, or at a later time. A good strategy here is to try to create a lightweight API with just one or two properties, so that if the API fails again, you haven't wasted too much time creating it.

For errors E5 and E6, there is something about the site that Kimono cannot open. Unfortunately, at this time pages that fail with E5 or E6 codes cannot be scraped with Kimono. We hope to support them in the future.
